How to do formatting for an assignment?

Proper format has to be maintained while writing an assignment for submission as otherwise it can amount to the deduction of points. This means that all the elements of your research paper have to be adequately presented at their desired places in the following manner:

  • Cover sheet of assignment
  • Table of contents or topics
  • Synopsis
  • Tables, graphs, figures and illustrations
  • Appendix

Assignment cover sheet features your name, student ID number, title of your project, project length, email address of your university, supervisor’s or tutor’s name, etc. These details help lecturers to give your project to the right person for review.

List of topics or table of contents helps a reviewer to have an idea of the topic that is covered in a paper and location of each written discussion. It contains the introduction, chapters, reference list, bibliography, appendix, acknowledgement, etc.

Synopsis basically includes a small description of your main topic (a problem or argument), use of particular methodology and process for data collection and a conclusion. Remember that your synopsis can be about 5 to 10% of your research work.

Presenting key information through tables, graphs, figures and illustrations is always good as these elements help you to dish out important details to your reader using less text. However, make sure these components are adequately referenced in your paper.

Each appendix has to be included on a fresh page. You can label an appendix as Appendix without assigning any number if it’s just one. However, in case of more than one appendix, label them as Appendix A, Appendix B, and so on.

Apart from these, you also have to keep in mind the use of proper font type and size in your paper. Choosing 10 point is safe in case of font type Arial and 12 point in case of Times New Roman. These fonts have easy readability. Also, make sure that you print matter only on one side of the paper.

From all this it is clear that following a proper format is important in order to score good grades in assignment.

The Use of Interactive Elements in Online Learning

Many of the online learning courses are less interactive which can lead to less retention and focus on the modules. Today most of the instructional designers strive to find novel ways to add a higher level of interactivity in the learning solutions. Learners are motivated to halt and interact with the modules in the e-learning courses so as to concentrate on the content completely. The interactive elements will therefore render the module more effective and enhance the rate of retention among the learners. With ample amount of creativity, it is possible to add a few interactive elements to the courses.

The interactive elements need to be relevant to the content. In most of the e-learning modules, the interactive sessions include decision-making scenarios. However, it should be related to the performance goals of the module. The three most commonly used interactive elements are Click, Drag and Hover. Most learners prefer to use the “Click” interactive feature as it is quite simple to use. Nevertheless, the “Drag and Drop” feature is also a novel and fun experience which acts as a motivational learning tool. Game elements are also used by developers to enhance the process of e-learning. Various tools such as badges, points and levels are used in gaming elements.
